Cape Town’s first street food festival takes place at Side Street Studios in Woodstock on Sunday, 27 July.
The festival will start in the morning at 9am with a street food market running until 3pm. Entrance to the market is free and everyone is welcome. Some of Cape Town’s most well-known street food entrepreneurs will share their secrets to success in a talks session from 10am– 3pm.
The day will end off with a special street food dinner collaboration, prepared by some of the speakers. Tickets to the talks and dinner are limited and can be booked via quicket.co.za

Cape Town’s Food Entrepreneurs Share Their Success Stories.
Spend the day with Cape Town’s street food specialists and start your own business, be inspired or just join in the food fun.
Pop-up pioneer Yang Zhao opened her own restaurant, Gusto have turned their dreams into a Cape Town and Johannesburg-based catering company and will soon be opening their own bagel bar and Andy Fenner has built one of Cape Town’s most reputed and most recognisable food brands.
This one-day seminar features talks by some of Cape Town’s most dynamic food entrepreneurs, sharing their own experiences and lessons learned from the challenges they faced along the way. Topics will include:
- Getting started and making it work
- Building your brand – the importance of choosing your name, your logo design and packaging design
- Marketing your business and the importance of social media
- Knowing when to say no
- Business planning and management
- On the street vs retail
- Important moments along the journey (things they wished they had known and things they would do differently)
- What can set you apart from the rest

STREET FOOD DINNER
The Cape Town’s finest foodies are coming together to prepare a one-of a kind street food dinner. The dinner collaborators include Ryan McDonagh (Lefty’s), Yang Zhao (Beijing Opera), Matthew Freemantle and Andrew Kai (Gusto), Heather Thompson (SOMA Confection) and Vanessa Marx (Dear Me). The meal includes five courses plus drinke. A cash bar will be available.
